Some Complications of a 10-Step Skincare Routine?
These are simply just opinions of my own, nor am I saying to completely dismiss a Korean 10-Step Skincare routine if that is something you're interested in trying. However, I feel there could be some complications with a routine of that large of a magnitude as this one could be. I just feel 10-steps are truly unnecessary especially for on a daily basis. I prefer the minimalistic approach such as the Japanese consumers do when it comes to skincare. For some I've heard they've experienced great results, but do I feel is it necessary? No... I don't think so personally. I'll explain more of this notion in detail.
Ten products all at once for ones who don't know I feel is a costly price to pay in terms of at your skin's expense as well. I would slowly introduce new products in your current routine, one by one, just to make sure you don't experience irritation or a reaction from that one product. If you introduce too many at once, you won't to be able to sometimes specifically tell what would be the exact cause of the reaction and which product that may be. What is very important, especially for makeup lovers & users are to double-cleanse such an important aspect when it comes to removing & breaking down the dirt, oil, bacteria, pollution and left-over makeup of the day as well. Secondly, a Toner in my overall opinion is an essential step, to remove any extra traces and the bonus is that it re-balances your skin's pH level, some don't feel it's a necessary step since the well-balanced cleansers of today don't overally strip your skin and throws your pH level off. However, I don't mind take the extra precautions, and also being acne-prone for me it's more important. Rather be safe knowing in knowing I properly cleansed thoroughly, since it is a very important step. Even though there could certain nights I'm exhausted and skip it for the morning after, however far few in between though. Having consistency is key.
An Essence is a nice add-on but not a necessity, it's right in between the Toner & Serum step, think of it as a "Pre-Serum" step to better prepare and penetrate all the ingredients & treatments going on afterwards. Masks don't need to be done everyday, even once to 2x a week can be sufficient enough and depending on one's busy schedule, if you have all the time in the world though, knock it out! (LOL) Exfoliation should be done 1-2x a week minimally speaking. If you use a chemical exfoliant or a retinol that can be used daily that's fine as well, however make sure to tread carefully though & see how your skin responds, you don't want to go overboard & wound up with inflammed skin either. Serums are a wonderful step and great for targeted treatment options, whether it be hydration, anti-aging, acne, brightening, texture, redness, etc. Plenty love to mix & match serums, just take into account the active ingredients as well that you're mixing in with together. Moisturizers & Sunscreens for me are always a must for healthy skin, no matter what!
So if I had to choose this would be the order that I feel is the most important for daily usage... It would be consistently 5-7 steps in a regular daily schedule. 8 steps in total max.
1. Pre-cleanse (Makeup Removal)
2. Cleanser
3. Toner
4. Serum
5. Moisturizer
6. Eye cream (Optional)
7. Sunscreen (During the day)
8. Exfoliation (1-2x weekly)
P.S. Overall, I just don't feel using so many steps is just so necessary and can be quite costly to a consumer also. However, making your own decisions are important to your own personal well-being & satisfaction of what you want to strive for as well.
Yours truly always,
Mr. Skin Care Guru
