How to Combat Mask-ne!

The state during this pandemic has been a stressful time when it comes to financially, mental health, stress, job stability and as well as other factors including health. The state of our skin has also been affected also. Developing acne breakouts, rosacea flare-ups and more. First things first.... the masks should be regularly washed to keep it the most clean and bacteria-free as possible. If when using disposable masks, make sure to change them as often as possibly needed.
As far as the acne is concerned, I would recommend ingredients and spot treatments with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Using a gentle cleanser, and one that is not stripping of your natural oils within the skin. Especially, for makeup users 💄 it's important to do a proper double-cleansing. If you are able keep makeup to the minimum to prevent further clogged pores then that would be essential (if possible). We do accumulate our own bacteria onto the mask 😷 including any added impurities such as any dirt and excess oil. Being acne-prone, it's a struggle at times for myself. Using a moisturizer and staying properly hydrated is a must to prevent further irritation as well.
Wearing these masks can also cause redness & irritation on the surface. One of the reason being from the consistent friction that's being added. For sensitive skin that suffers from rosacea struggle possibly with flare-ups at this time. Using a hydrocortisone cream on trouble spots/areas will help to bring the inflammation down and calm the skin. Using ingredients and products that are geared towards sensitive skin will help to soothe the surface. Using a proper moisturizer as well to keep your moisture barrier properly hydrated & in tact is important to further protect the delicate skin, as well and as mention prior to prevent further irritation. Making sure to use a gentle cleanser night & day (everyday) to make sure your removing the pollution, bacteria and other impurities from the surface. I also recommend exfoliation whether it be physical/chemical exfoliation (1-2x weekly/or depending on the amount of what your skin can tolerate), to slough off the dead skin cells and increase cell turnover, prevent further clogged pores and reducing the breakouts for clearer & healthier skin.

Yours truly always,
